(August 20, 2015/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions was awarded a $17.7 million contract by the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) and the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA) for the development and sustainment of the Transportation Geographic Information System (TGIS). This effort will evolve the award-winning IRRIS® application and Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS) through enhanced mapping capabilities and the ability to use the applications across multiple platforms. GeoDecisions, an information technology (IT) company specializing in enterprise geospatial solutions, will integrate IRRIS and EGIS functionality using the Esri® ArcGIS platform to create the new TGIS solution.

TGIS will enhance the ability of USTRANSCOM and its subordinate commands to manage infrastructure and assets, such as military cargo shipments, and to better share information worldwide. During daily operations or in an emergency, TGIS also will provide the Defense Transportation Tracking System and the Defense Courier Division with a command-and-control solution. Under the TGIS contract, GeoDecisions will reuse existing IRRIS and EGIS hardware and software and build an enterprise solution with greater global asset intelligence aimed to reduce costs, increase collaboration, and mitigate risks.

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with USTRANSCOM and SDDCTEA. For the past 16 years, we have supported the Command to revolutionize the use of geospatial technology within the Department of Defense to help enable our warfighters,” said Brendan J. Wesdock, MCP, GISP, GeoDecisions president based in Suffolk, Virginia. “TGIS is the next step in our technology evolution, and we look forward to continuing our Command partnership while transforming IRRIS and EGIS into a next-generation solution for greater visibility, tracking, and security.”

(August 17, 2015/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an information technology (IT) company specializing in geographic information system (GIS) solutions, was featured in August 2015 editions of GPS World magazine and the Esri® Canada blog for providing a Canadian iceberg tracking expedition with geospatial location intelligence. GeoDecisions partnered with Solara Remote Data Delivery Incorporated, Canada’s Carleton University, and Esri during the project.

An intelligent location server using the Esri® ArcGIS platform, GeoDecisions’ GeoILS worked with Solara’s tracking devices to help expedition crew members visualize, analyze, and leverage iceberg-pertinent data. “Thanks to our partners’ efforts, we now have a great new suite of tools for examining our data,” said Derek Mueller, assistant professor and physical geography program supervisor with Carleton University.

Through GeoDecisions’ GIS-based solution, the project team was able to produce customized maps with iceberg information for geographic areas of interest based on specified criteria. For more information, read the entire GPS World article and Esri Canada blog.

(July 16, 2015/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions and its parent company, Gannett Fleming, were awarded a $3.3 million/three-year contract by the U.S. Transportation Command and Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA) to continue providing Ports for National Defense (PND) program and geographic information system (GIS) services. The project includes PND studies, GIS for outside-the-continental-U.S. (OCONUS) seaports, and onsite GIS support. GeoDecisions is an information technology company specializing in enterprise geospatial solutions.

Since 2001, Gannett Fleming and GeoDecisions have partnered with SDDCTEA to complete studies and provide GIS for commercial and military seaports throughout the world. In addition to creating and maintaining a GIS database for OCONUS seaports, GeoDecisions developed and maintains EGIS and the award-winning IRRIS® platform.

“Today’s U.S. military strategy is built on the ability to rapidly deploy, protect, and sustain armed forces anywhere on the planet, and our port study and GIS solutions support this mindset,” said Brendan Wesdock, MCP, GISP, president of GeoDecisions. “We provide SDDCTEA with geospatial tools that help revolutionize surface deployment and distribution analyses and evolve transportation engineering.”

GeoDecisions GIS technology combined with Gannett Fleming engineering acumen has proven successful during SDDCTEA seaport data development projects. “Accuracy, information consistency, and quality control are key performance indicators,” added Jessica Hou, PE, vice president with Gannett Fleming. “Our SDDCTEA portfolio includes assessing 45 different seaports, many multiple times during the last decade of this work, while considering critical transportation infrastructure through more than 70 modeling analyses. We are on call and onsite whenever and wherever SDDCTEA requires assistance.”

(June 1, 2015/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions staff helped elementary students make a splash and map the water treatment process on May 14 at Cedar Crest College near Allentown, Pennsylvania, during HydroMania 2015. An information technology (IT) company specializing in geospatial solutions, GeoDecisions joined fellow exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, and more than 1,200 third and fourth grade students eager to explore interactive demonstrations throughout the watershed education event.

“HydroMania generates curiosity, excitement, and understanding among our region’s youth about current water issues, resulting in a lifetime of watershed-friendly water-use habits,” said Liesel Adam, chief administrative officer with Lehigh County Authority. “It’s a great day for everyone involved, from students and educators to the community of water utilities that have partnered together for the past 15 years to make this event possible.”

GeoDecisions and its parent company, Gannett Fleming, supported HydroMania 2015 through a hands-on exhibit that explained how water is treated. Students helped demonstrate water filtration using bottles consisting of sand, gravel, garnet, or anthracite filter media. A 3-D video tour of Pennsylvania’s Red Lion Municipal Cabin Creek Water Treatment Plant also provided third and fourth graders with a better understanding of engineering concepts and visualization techniques.

“Through HydroMania, we have a community opportunity to educate elementary students while sparking their interest in math, science, and computer technology,” said Ricardo Duarte, marketing manager with GeoDecisions. “Event organizers and volunteers do an amazing job of developing an age-appropriate HydroMania curriculum, from ‘Dewey the Water Drop’ to exhibitor scavenger hunts.”
