An Amazing USTRANSCOM Journey Continues

Congratulations to the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) and the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA) for a successful deployment of TGIS in mid-July. This marks the end of an era with TGIS replacing the Intelligent Road/Rail Information System (IRRIS®), developed by GeoDecisions and in production for the commands since 2001.

GeoDecisions began working with USTRANCOM in 1999 on a small pilot program that has grown with IRRIS as its flagship application. IRRIS was a state-of-the-art logistics and tracking GIS application. TGIS has transformed the IRRIS platform into a modern-day GIS and tracking solution with more than 1,500 users. Growing every day, the system also supports more than 800 GIS layers.

I personally have been on the IRRIS/TGIS team for more than 12 years and have truly enjoyed seeing the program grow and develop. It’s been an amazing experience getting to work on such a large application used in real-world scenarios.  I look forward to the next 12 years and seeing where TGIS goes from here.
