The citizens of Newport News and the Virginia Peninsula can soon anticipate more efficient operations due to a new asset management software solution to be implemented by GeoDecisions, in partnership with Cityworks, a GIS-centric asset management system solution company.

Newport News Waterworks is spearheading the $1.5 million project. The solution will become the department’s first GIS-based asset management system, aligning it with other city departments using similar systems, and providing the city with the ability to create work orders and manage assets and capital expenditure plans.

“The partnership between GeoDecisions, The City of Newport News, and GeoDecisions’ parent company, Gannett Fleming, spans nearly 30 years, as we’ve provided service to its waterworks, public works, engineering, and information technology departments,” said Brendan Wesdock, president of GeoDecisions. “We continue to be proud of the work that we have completed together and look forward to continuing this partnership.”

Leveraging the city’s investment in Cityworks to provide a robust asset management system, decision-makers will manage and maintain assets effectively through the new enterprise solution, which offers exceptional value, minimal risk, and scalability to meet the city’s current and future needs.

The city will implement the project over an 18-month period with the help from a team of highly qualified GIS and water utility experts from GeoDecisions and Gannett Fleming, led by GeoDecisions’ Senior Vice President and Project Principal Trent Park.
