Map Publication Highlights a Powerful Partnership
/A map created by a team of GeoDecisions® experts led by Senior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Architect Ohan Oumoudian will be published in the eagerly anticipated “Esri Map Book, Volume 36.” The annual publication showcases maps created by cartographers from around the world that best demonstrate how GIS technology helps governments, businesses, and citizens.
The GeoDecisions image that will be included in the Esri Map Book illustrates the integration of the GeoDecisions Notify solution, a high-speed mass notification system, with Esri Utility Network. It features a base map of a water utility network with the specific customers affected by a water main break clearly identified.
“What we have achieved with Notify, and being able to bring a mass notification solution to the Esri platform, is an accomplishment I am really proud of,” said Oumoudian. “It was truly a team effort. Everyone’s vision and technical abilities made this happen, and ultimately it improved service for the water customers.”
Combining Notify and Utility Network allows users to identify or isolate the clients impacted by a water main break or other issue. Notify will send text, email, or voice messages within minutes to these clients to provide additional information or directions. This integration and accuracy within a water utility network are invaluable to mobilizing customers and employees quickly and safely in any emergency.
Oumoudian said the map exemplifies a compelling outcome of GeoDecisions’ “true partnership” with Esri, a global market leader in GIS. “We understand their vision, which allows us to anticipate where they are headed. It’s gratifying to be able to bring the results of that partnership to our clients.”
Every year, hundreds of cartographers showcase their skills by submitting maps to be considered for the Map Book, and to be on display at the annual Esri User Conference, attended by approximately 20,000 GIS professionals. Submission into the Map Gallery does not guarantee selection for the Map Book—only the maps that best demonstrate how GIS addresses problems and challenges globally are published.
