VDOT's Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS)

CLIENT: Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)
LOCATION: Virginia

CHALLENGE

VDOT needed a transportation-centric, web-based, and spatial- and mobile-enabled asset management solution (AMS) to improve management and cost control of its operations across all nine field districts and a central office. The solution needed to focus on maintenance, traffic engineering, and structure and bridge functional areas.

SOLUTION

In partnership with Data Transfer Solutions, the GeoDecisions team supported the implementation of VUEWorks®, a web-enabled, GIS-integrated enterprise asset management (EAM) software. The work involved integration between VUEWorks and VDOT's existing enterprise system, including customer service (Microsoft Dynamics), inventory, equipment, and employee systems. Also, the team converted data to a GIS format to complete the new VDOT Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) project.

The VUEWorks software is a GIS web-based enterprise asset and work order management system that provides government agencies with the ability to manage, analyze, integrate, and share valuable asset and work management information. Implementation included solution design, integration, testing, and training. The team converted and loaded existing asset management data and performance models. Ultimately, they also needed to make sure VUEWorks worked seamlessly with the other system, which involved close collaboration throughout VDOT as the team worked to understand priorities and connect the disparate systems.

VUEWorks manages any infrastructure asset to minimize the total cost of owning and operating it while delivering desired service levels. The software allows VDOT to track and manage any asset, including transportation infrastructure, equipment, inventory, facilities, and fleet vehicles. This solution is integrated fully with Esri technology.
