Upgraded Website Enables Miami-Dade MPO to Enhance Public Engagement
/CLIENT: Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization
LOCATION: Miami-Dade County, Florida
CHALLENGE
The Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization’s public-facing website map and query engine detailing all transportation improvement projects under its jurisdiction leveraged the Flex application programming interface (API) for Google Maps, but the API was no longer being supported. A different mapping protocol and interaction method were required to maintain website functionality and enhance the user experience.
SOLUTION
To provide long-lasting support and meet current industry standards, GeoDecisions upgraded the MPO’s InteracTIP website to use Javascript API for Google Maps, enhancing the organization’s ongoing public engagement efforts. The new API also provides improved device compatibility and browser neutrality, creating a better experience for the website user.
As part of the project, the administrative screens and workflows used by the MPO to manage their Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) and Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) were enhanced to provide more robust features and better security and audit tracking.
Website information includes displays of projects on a map, project and address search functionality, and a preview pop-up, as well as a project status report and project manager listing. Projects are updated by MPO users via secure user interfaces and linked to state projects using the Florida Department of Transportation’s Work Program to provide users with the most current information.
